Introducing a New Print “Aspiring Legends (of Kā I Mua)”

This new print imagines two young Ancient Hawaiian men coming of age, filled with a need to prove their place as men, attempting to conquer feats like the legends told during their Kā I Mua, by hunting the Ahi (yellowfin tuna) with a spear.

Kā I Mua was a males transition from life as a boy to becoming a man. Boys were taken into the Mua (the house for men to feast and worship their gods) where they were introduced to the roles practices and told of the amazing feats of legendary warriors, hunters, and fishermen of their villages.

I really enjoyed every opportunity I got to spearfish. Each time truly allowed me to try and put myself in the place of my ancestors before me that relied on this style of hunting for food.

We hope you enjoy this print and continue to learn, share and express your passion for culture with us.
