Much of Bethany’s art uses representation, a traditional art practice used by the Snoqualmie people. You will also see traditional salish patterns in contemporary style. In her piece 3 represents the mind, body, and spirit, 4 represents healing for the medicine wheel, and 5 represents the Snoqualmie Tribe, for the 5 clans (the people of the moon).
This piece is a story of healing, community, and perseverance. Which is represented in the number of salmon, in the number of waves, and throughout the piece. The five eggs containing crescent moons are the 5 clans of the Snoqualmie Tribe and the reflection of the population of kokanee growing, just like their tribal community now!
How many sets of 5’s, 4’s, and 3’s do you see?
