Salmonberry Hoops
$25.00
This design was inspired by Bethany Fackrell’s art piece “Awakening of the Spring” and is made of real cedar wood.
Cedar trees are considered sacred and a heavily relied upon wood for the Salish people. It’s multi-purposeful use helped sustain a way of life for many tribes. Traditionally Coast-Salish people slept in long houses, dug out canoes, weaved clothes and baskets, and more (all sourced from cedar tree). In fact, many of these traditions are still being carried out today by our communities.
Salmonberries provided an alternate food source (especially coming out of the winter months) and served as a good indicator that Spring had started.
Bethany says – “ I always look forward to seeing the salmonberry blooms. It brings so much joy to know that Spring is awakening and the harvest seasons are going to begin!”
